Emerging from Lee “Scratch” Perry’s smoke-filled Black Ark studio during the height of his mid-70s experimentation, the 1976 dub masterpiece transformed primitive recording equipment, tape echo and studio effects into an entirely new psychedelic language of reggae music.
Developed from stripped-back rhythms recorded for artists including Max Romeo and The Heptones, the record reconstructed reggae into murky bass pressure, drifting percussion, ghostly vocal fragments and hallucinatory sonic space, later becoming a foundational influence on post-punk, electronic and experimental music.

Croaking Lizard (featuring Prince Jazzbo)
