MILES DAVIS - KIND OF BLUE

£28.00

Recorded over just nine hours of studio time across two sessions in Manhattan in 1959, Kind of Blue brought together one of the most extraordinary line-ups in jazz history: Miles Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums.

Moving away from the increasingly complex jazz of the late 1950s, Davis encouraged a freer, more spontaneous approach to improvisation, giving the players little advance preparation before recording. What emerged was a recording of remarkable beauty, space and emotional depth, placing melody back at the heart of jazz and demonstrating how simplicity could open up entirely new possibilities for improvisation.

The records influence reshaped modern jazz and reached far beyond the genre, making its revolutionary nature easy to take for granted today.
